Cricket team turns to SA fitness trainer

The South African will conduct a one-day fitness training programme with the senior team at the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Oval on Saturday. South African coach, Johan Rudolph who was in the country recently working with the national team recommended Loubsher. He (Loubsher) has worked with South African outfit, the Titans before.
Speaking to Mmegi Sport, BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said Loubsher would work closely with the national team that is without a fitness trainer, to check the players’ fitness levels.
“While Johan was conducting coaching clinics a few weeks ago, he noticed that most of our players were off form so he recommended a fitness trainer for us,” Damodar said. Damodar added that as a way of preparing for the ICC World Cricket League Division VI tournament, to be hosted by England in September this year, Loubsher would be coming to the country more often to check on the team’s fitness levels.
He said the BCA does not have sufficient funds to hire a full-time fitness trainer.
“We are also considering certain facts such as whether we need one at the moment since we do not play competitive cricket that much, but if we qualify for the Division Five league we will definitely hire one because we will be playing more cricket,” he said.
Meanwhile, Damodar said a new coach would be announced next month. “At the moment, I cannot mention the name. We are still working on the final procedures.”
The new coach is expected to work closely with Rudolph who has an agreement to work with the national team as a build up to the England tournament-where the country will face Saudi Arabia, Fiji, Vanuata, Cayman Islands Guernsey and Suriname.
The national team has been without a coach for the past two years since the departure of former mentor, Arjun Menon. Kenyan Joseph Angara had a short stint prior the Pepsi ICC Africa Championships held in South Africa last month.
