Baboneng launches Deadly Deception

PALAPYE: A Palapye-based company, Baboneng Film Production, launched their first ever action movie, Deadly Deception at Majestic Five Hotel on Saturday.  The launch attracted the likes of Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Master Goya, Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng, and dignitaries from the various ministries.

Several visitors from neighbouring South Africa were also present in numbers and they included officials from South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Msanzi Magic and Lola Cultural Project.

Director and producer, Kesebonye Seabelo said the movie was inspired by his love for martial arts. He said the film depicts martial artists as protectors of the innocent.

Seabelo revealed that he wanted to show that karate is not only physical, but also mental and spiritual.

The movie revolves around Mr. Bad played by Molemi Leinane, a man who loves money so much that he does many bad things for it. He ends up, killing his friend’s family in order to gain their riches.

Boago Gabatshwane who plays Princess is a main character in the movie. Her wealth puts her life in danger, and she becomes one of Mr. Bad’s targets.

Another key character in the movie is Botswana Karate Champion, Ofentse Makwala who plays Jackson. He is devoted to the sport and believes that he has a role to protect innocent people.

Jackson manages to save Princess from Mr. Bad’s gangsters.

The movie’s strong points stem from its use of colloquial Setswana, which makes it sound real and authentic. It reflects on the role of martial artists in the society and it also addresses issues pertaining to friendships, trust and mistrust between people.

The movie shows that it is not all friends that are trustworthy; some of them are greedy and would do anything for the love of money.

Baboneng’s first ever action movie is expected to air on Msanzi Magic in the next few weeks.  It is also expected to air on SABC, Senior editorial reporter from SABC, Mercedes Nkoane, confirmed to Showbiz.
