Police deny using excessive force over spilled vegetables

Assistant Superintendent Kitsiso Lemogang, refuted allegations that they registered one injury, stating that the only person who was injured was one of the truck drivers.

He stated that they received a report that two horse and trailer trucks have collided next to Jwaneng mine airport in the early mornings of Thursday.

He said when they arrived at the scene they learned that a horse and trailer full of concrete had a puncture next to the road before the one with vegetables hit it from the back.

Lemogang revealed that the public came in large numbers to pick the fallen vegetables but the police used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse them. However, he said that the owners later gave them the permission to allow the public to pick those vegetables.

Still at the accident, Lemogang said, one of the truck owners reported that his spear wheel was missing.  “We traced and found the wheel at one house in Jwaneng Unit 3”, he said.

He added that the suspect, a man aged between of 35-40 years, ran away during police search but his wife submitted the said wheel and his truck to the police.

He was arrested and he will appear before court in due time.

One of the reports was that a middle-aged woman of Sese village was injured during the clash and was taken to Princess Marina for treatment.
