BIHL Trust Thomas Tlou Scholarship opens

The platform, now in its 6th year, comes as part of the BIHL Trust’s unwavering dedication towards supporting the growth and education of Batswana. The closing date for submission of applications is 30 June,2015.

Said BIHL Trust Administrator, Tebogo Keepetsoe: “Education remains a key area of focus for BIHL Trust, and the Thomas Tlou Scholarship Programme remains a cornerstone aspect of this. Professor Tlou was a renowned historian and educationalist who left an incredible legacy amongst Batswana.”

BIHL Trust conceptualised the BIHL Trust Thomas Tlou Scholarship, with the blessing of Professor Sheila Tlou and named it after the late Professor Thomas Tlou, in 2012.  The scholarship benefits talented young Batswana with aspirations to pursue postgraduate studies in any discipline aimed at contributing to Botswana’s socio-economic development. As Professor Tlou himself once said, “This is our beloved Botswana, we need to develop it ourselves.”

All citizens of Botswana who wish to pursue a Masters programme in any discipline at Universities in Botswana are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must hold a recognised first degree at the time of the application for the scholarship and must have an acceptance letter from the university in order to be considered. To date, eight scholarships have been awarded, with the first students benefitting from the programme graduating in 2015.

“The Scholarship aims to benefit talented young Batswana with aspirations to pursue postgraduate studies in any discipline aimed at contributing to Botswana’s socio-economic development. With this platform, BIHL Trust – representative of the interests of Botswana Life, Bifm, and Legal Guard - aims to carry forward the rich heritage and legacy Professor Tlou left, ensuring the memory and work of such a remarkable visionary lives on through the youth of Botswana as they set forth to champion sustainable impact and change,” continued Keepetsoe.
