Perera managed to lead his youthful team to a seven wicket win over their opponents.

Perera staged one of his best performances as he obtained four wickets for just three runs in two overs.

He bowled three batsmen, Iyaz Sheikh, Imtiaz Patel and Naaza Bkoose while the fourth, Azhar Sohail was a Leg Before Wicket (LBW) decision. Southern Rocks won the toss and elected to bat, but opening batsman Araf Malik did not last long in the match as man-of-the-match, Perera completed a catch off Thatayaone Tshose’s delivery.

The Southern Rocks’ batting was poor as no batsmen managed more than 15runs except Sohail who hit 42 from 35balls.

Southern Rocks folded to 91 all out in the 17th over.

Shining Stars started well with Under-19 captain, Rashaad Mosweu and Game Mere getting their team to 20 for no loss in the third over.

However, Southern Rocks bowler Malik removed Mere in the fourth over through a catch from his own delivery.

Mere’s departure disabled Shining Stars’ attack as the run rate slowed with  Tharindu Perera and Ogolotse Tshwene departing in a space of five minutes.

All-rounder Mmoloki             Mooketsi came to the rescue to partner Mosweu.

The two young batsmen formed a solid partnership to power their side to victory in the 15th over.  Lahiru Perera was excited with the win.

He said his form showed improvement. Southern Rocks captain, Soheil Sheikh admitted that his team was off form due to the off-season rustiness.

“Hopefully, we will improve in next matches and improve in the batting and fielding departments,” he said.
