Motswarap continues to unearth gems

What started as small event in a house garage by a group of friends in Tlokweng continues to grow into an attractive display of artistry.
The event, which has since moved to Thapong Visual Arts Centre, now attracts a mixture of old and young crowd.
Once again various budding performers displayed attractive skills from urban dance, traditional poetry, contemporary poetry and hip-hop.
A few individuals stood out on the night and showed promise of a good future in the performing arts.
After a slow start the event got a good injection of energy when dance group T & I took to the stage. Within minutes they had swayed the crowd to their side and excited cheers filled the night.
Combing raw power with creative reflexes, the young men were able to bring the much-needed excitement. RB2’s Captain Shaun gave the crowd a glimpse of his contemporary poems with a poem inspired by one of Ketshotseng’s art pieces. The rhyming, the smooth flow of his words and the cutting edge message delivery proved his assertions that “ I’m not a poet but a word smith”. Comedian BK gave the event its lightest moment with a piece about a drug addict who goes to rehab hoping for comfortable space in the mental hospital.
But he is shocked to find a Nigerian doctor who makes it clear to the young fellow that his rehabilitation would involve enduring a hard time. To wrap it up in style female hip-hop artist Layara Marks combined silky vocal skills with instinctive rap lines and sexy dance moves. Cheers could be heard as the slender chick completed her performance with the track Pay Back.
