Nicos solitary goal stuns BDF XI

The first quarter of the game was evenly contested with both teams visiting each other’s territory. BDF XI then had an upper hand midway in the game and dominated possession. Koziba Tlhabano was in charge of Matebele’s attacks, but he missed a golden opportunity in the 21st minute, which would have seen BDF XI taking a 1-0 lead.

Nico United goalkeeper, Kagiso Rankabekwa was resolute between his posts and denied Matebele on several occasions. Towards the end of the first half, Nico United upped their game and asked several questions.

Christopher Musonda spearheaded Nico United attacks alongside Khumoetsile Kufigwa, who was instrumental in Majombolo’s dominant left wing attacks. Majombolo nearly took the lead in the last minute of the first half, but Arnold Mampori missed the chance.

Nico United continued to push forward in the second half and stretched the army side from one edge of the pitch to the other.  They caught BDF XI with a counter attack and Mampori put them in front with a low shot. Both teams made substitutions with BDF XI looking for an equaliser while Nico wanted to increase their lead. Ofentse Mmipi made way for James Moloi while Nico United removed Samson Mogomotsi and replaced him with Melvin Moyo. However, Nico United managed to protect their lead and walked away with three vital points.
