Baboneng to launch their first ever action movie

The movie launch will be held at the Majestic Five Hotel in Palapye on Saturday.

Among the many people expected to attend the launch are Member of Parliament (MP) for Palapye, also Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Master Goya, and Minister of Youth, Sports Culture, Thapelo Olopeng together with other dignitaries from different ministries and companies.

Several visitors from neighboring South Africa are also expected to make an appearance, and they include officials from South African Broadcasting (SABC), some from Mzanzi Magic and Lola Cultural project.

Deadly Deception is an action movie featuring Botswana karate champion Ofentse Makwala and Carlos Dambe. It is dedicated to martial arts, Baboneng Film Production director and producer has revealed.

In an interview with Showbiz recently, Kesebonye Seabelo said that his inspiration to produce such a movie came from his love and devotion to Karate.

“I am a martial artist, so this movie is a dedication to martial arts. I love the sport and I am dedicated to it, which is why during my four years term in Botswana Karate National Team I won 70 percent of my fights. I played the sport with passion, even in this movie I am acting as the instructor,” he said.

The seasoned producer also revealed that at first he named the movie ‘I am here to protect’ but decided to change the name to Deadly Deception.

He said that he gave it such a name because he believed that the role of a martial artist is to protect and to serve, so martial artists must protect the innocent people.

He also said that people should know that karate is not only about physical fight but also mental and spiritual fight, adding that the movie would also address issues pertaining to friendships and trust/mistrust between people.

Seabelo noted that other starring actors in the movie are Boago Gabatshwane who is acting as the young princess and Molemi Leinane whom he said is called ‘Mr. Bad’in the story.

Mr Bad is said to be so bad in the movie that he is going to be hated by everyone who will have a chance to watch the movie.

Baboneng, which has several sponsors including Morupule Colliery, Etel, Vincci boutique, A-Tshekane Outdoor and Bona Outdoor, have been known for their sizzling, entertaining and educating projects such as dramas and documentaries.

Their last drama offering ‘Moraedi’ which had 13 episodes was aired on Botswana Television (BTV). Baboneng’s other projects include Botswana snakes, Mind dimensions and Motlhala wa madi.

Another drama that attracted many viewers was Lorato ke lone leo, which is currently being aired on M-net.

Deadly Deception is expected to change many people’ minds about sports.

According to Seabelo, sport does not begin and end on the pitch.

He emphasised on giving young talented sports men an opportunity to act in films just like internationally known karatekas like Van Damme.

“Immediately after the movie, we will produce another movie called My last Day, which has already been endorsed by the National Aids Coordinating Agency, as it’s storyline is aligned with the work they do,” he said.
