Among the big earners on the day was local music giant Vee, who topped the list with P63, 027.85; followed by DJ Oats who received P18, 620.09. Ke Thala Dinte singer Shumba Ratshega walked away with P18, 269.20, while Lizibo took home P10, 705.80.

The managing director of ViB mobile, Leroy Monaheng, said the money was generated mainly through downloads. He also said every party involved receives a share, although artists get the biggest share.

“The money these artists received was solely based on ringtone downloads, therefore every artist involved will get their share,” he said.  Monaheng further explained that their company develops, produces and offers a wide range of content for every mobile medium, which explains their agreement with Mascom, beMOBILE and Orange.

“The service providers involved ViB Mobile in this project, because we provide content services like monophonic and molyphonic Tones, True/MP3 Tones, Full Track Music and Caller Ringback Tunes (RBT)” he said. The royalties money was generated from all the ringtones downloaded since late last year, songs of which most were from recent the artists’ albums.
