Pitse Ya Naga couple continues to transform lives

The two were crowned in a glittering ceremony in October last year that attracted participants from across Botswana, born in 1966. The reigning duo, Lyndon Mothusi and Boikhutso Shawe, are now involved in raising awareness and funds for a man suffering from a kidney failure.

The couple has partnered with Moabi Trust fund and Botswana Institute of Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Offenders (BIRRO) to raise funds to assist patient Lesego Morake. The couple, alongside Moabi Trust Fund and BIRRO have organised a sponsored walk on May 9 to start the public awareness and help Morake receive medical attention.

In an interview with Showbiz, Shawe said they are passionate about social responsibility and that’s why they spearheaded this campaign.

She also said that they had been tasked with the responsibility of helping raise awareness in order to mobilise the nation to assist Morake with medical expenses.

Mothusi stated that they would drive the awareness campaign through social events in order to push the mileage.

“It’s not a once off thing, we have joined the awareness mainstream and we won’t stop until Morake gets medical treatment in China,” he said.

Moabi Trust Fund public relations officer (PRO), Kaone Ramontshonyana, expressed gratitude over the couple’s involvement in the project. He said they had to raise P250, 000 by June 2015 for Morake to meet the deadline to receive medical treatment in China.

Ramotshonyana also said that they had opted for the treatment in China because it was less expensive and the process involved regeneration of kidney cells. Ramontshonyana clarified that the account opened for Moroka would be legitimate and authenticated.

The Moabi Trust Fund was established to assist people who have chronic illnesses.

The PRO of BIRRO, Akanyang Korong, explained that Morake, who is a principal education officer at the Ministry of Education, had been working with them to educate children in schools about the dangers of crime and alcohol abuse.

He said considering the pivotal role Moroka had played, they felt indebted to assist him, especially since his medical aid could not cover his kidney treatment expenses.  Korong added after the sponsored walk, which will start in the morning at the GSS grounds and end at Molapo Crossing, they would continue raising awareness about the campaign through the media.
