The Koze Kuse house track by soft-spoken DJ Merlon and vocalist Mondli Ngcobo is one of the rare tracks that a number of music lovers have truly appreciated and consider a hit. Speaking to Showbiz DJ Merlon stated that when recording their hit track, they considered a number of factors and elements. He said before recording any song, musicians and producers should listen to different types of genres and appreciate good music.

“Jazz is one good genre because it is a base for different music genres,” DJ Merlon said.

He added that musicians should make their material authentic, “adopting the western style does not take you far, but if you are original you can breakthrough into different borders”.

He, however, said that the secret is that there is in fact no secret or recipe to making a hit.

The trick, he said, is to listen to good music, “you must be loyal to music, and patience will also lead to making a hit, take your time while recording.

Do not put yourself under pressure”. DJ Merlon performs his sets with vocalist Ngcobo who has a strong baritone voice similar to the late Nana Coyote.  Their sets are always full of energy.

When they performed at Dros last weekend, revellers were left astonished when Ngcobo played around with vocals with the mixes that DJ Merlon was playing on the decks.

After displaying an ecstatic performance of Koze Kuse, Ngcobo told Showbiz that when making a song one should play it for a wide audience to see their appreciation before the official release of the track.

“Before we dropped Koze Kuse we used to perform just the chorus at parties and clubs till people requested for the full song,” said Ngcobo. During their performance they also performed an upcoming single titled Ginqi Ginqi, which revellers danced to and showed appreciation for.

Ngcobo who is also a music producer mentioned that they are looking forward to working with local artists and continue making more hits.  “Due to our tight schedule when we are in Botswana we do not find time to scout for artists,” he said.

Koze Kuse has been receiving some good airplay from various radio and television stations in Southern Africa.

The track also opened a number of doors for the duo that is always booked for performances in a number of events.
