Nico safe after Letlapeng mauling

Prior to that, Majombolo literally lived dangerously as they were not safe from the drop.

Their coach, Wesley Mondo described the match as critical and that they had to win it.

“The game was a bit low in the first half. In the second half, my players played very well. It was an important game as far as survival is concerned,” he said.

The  emphatic win against the Ramotswa side ensured another one-year stay in the top flight for the side from the copper and nickel town.  Letlapeng, who have already booked their space in the First Division, fought valiantly in the first half before falling apart in the second stanza. The scoreline was 0-0 at halftime.

Goals from tall Zambian, Christopher Musonda (brace), captain Richard Legwaila, Allen Ndodole and Malvern Moyo sealed Nico United Premier League stay.

Meanwhile, Letlapeng chairman Sidney Magagane told Mmegi Sport that he blamed fatigue for the loss.

The team made the more than 400km trip to Selebi-Phikwe the same day.  “The players did not play well because of fatigue. But, in the first half we were better,” Magagane  said. He complained about lack of funds saying it meant the team had to travel on the same day as it could not book accommodation.
