British High Commissioner to Botswana, Nick Pyle told Mmegi Sport after the tournament that the charity event was launched last year.

It is the brainchild of Pyle, Marshall Huntingford and Taff Williams.  He said Botswana is considered a developing economy, but the country has some challenges.

Pyle said the amount raised exceeded expectations. He said several local charities have already benefited from the event.

Some of the projects that have already been supported are The Cheshire Foundation of Botswana, Teenage Mothers Project, Football Skills Youth Project, Ramotswa Youth Sports Development, Francistown Rotary Club, Fuji Football Club, Cricket Without Boundaries, Maun Puppies, Maun Homeopathy Project, Jwaneng Street Children Project and The Neonatal Unit at Princess Marina Hospital.

The High Commissioner said the event could go a long way in improving golf in the country.  About 180 golfers took part in the event. The main title sponsors were Gaborone Sun, Aggreko and De Beers.
