Gospel songstress Kaybee makes comeback

 

Kaybee, who released her first studio album in 2008 titled Forever, returns with a second one called Wuparu.

The 29-year-old from Sepopa village in Okavango said she has been absent from the music scene because of school commitments, but is now back for good.

“I released my new album in June last year, but it reached my fans earlier this year,” she said.

As part of her promotional efforts, Kaybee has organised a charity concert at Plateau Hall in Kasane on May 2. 

will feature other artists like D’Jetrofa, Compe’r, Sandyman, Lesedi, DJ Bongo, DJ Nono and many others. 

Tickets for the show which starts at 6pm cost P30.  The Kazungula Children’s Ark Orphanage will recieve Proceeds 25 percent of the proceeds earned from ticket sales.

“I decided that as long as I am an artist, all of my shows will be dedicated to charity,” she said.

Concerning her music career, Kaybee said she started singing at the age of 16 when she was ushered into the praise and worship group at church.

In her latest album, she has collaborated with The MVP on a track simply titled Lorato.  Kaybee sings contemporary gospel that is similar along with genres like R&B, but is a staunch gospel artist. “I sing gospel one way, but I dedicated one R&B song because I am naturally a vocalist,” she said.

Kaybee plans to release a Gospel R&B album in the nearby future. She said has uploaded her video on YouTube which was also played on Pula Power the previous weekend.

“I intend to take my video to Btv’s Flava Dome, Melodi Ya Kgalaletso and eBotswana,” she added.

As far as performing live is concerned, apart from singing at All Nations church where she worships, the talented singer who grew up in Orapa said she has also performed at a church conference in neighbouring Namibia.

“I am planning to perform again in Namibia this June,” she said.

Kaybee has a large fan base in her hometown because she sings in languages they understand, like Hambukushu.

 In her latest album, she sings in her native language along Setswana, Shona and English.
