Phoko has been nominated twice for the Mascom Top 8 awards and two times for the beMOBILE Premier League awards.
In the beMOBILE Premier League awards, Phoko is nominated in the newly introduced goalkeeper of the season and young player of the season categories.
He will compete for the best young player against two other exciting players, Onkabetse Makgantai and Kabelo Seakanyeng.
All the three players are part of the Under-23 team, which last weekend thrashed Kenya 3-0 in the first leg of the African Championships qualifier. They have also been part of the senior team set up.
Phoko will also battle for the best goalkeeper award against Mosimanegape Robert of Orapa United and Basimanebotlhe Moilwa of Sankoyo Bush Bucks.
In the Mascom Top awards, he is nominated together with Noah Maposa of Township Rollers as well as Edwin Mokibe of Nico United.
He is expected to walk away with the award after his match winning performances in the second leg of the semi-final against Nico United and in the final against Rollers.
He has also been nominated for the prestigious player of the tournament award-where he faces competition from his teammate- Alphonse Modisaotsile and Rollers’ Segolame Boy. The winner will walk away with P50, 000. His teammate, Benson Shilongo is already a winner after finishing as the top goal scorer in the tournament with five goals.
In the Mascom Top 8 coach of the tournament award category, Rahman Gumbo is expected to win after leading GU to victory against Rollers in the final.
He is pitted against Madinda Ndlovu and Letang Kgwengwenyane of BDF XI.
The beMOBILE Premier League awards will see Lesego Galenamotlhale, Boy and Orapa United’s Hendrick Moyo battle for player of the season honour.
Galenamotlhale has been Chiefs’ pillar in the middle this season despite not attracting national team selectors.
Boy has also been exceptional for Rollers despite his team finishing the season without a trophy.
Moyo has led Orapa United into one of the most exciting outfits this season with his goals. He is chasing the Green Boot award as he is joint top goal scorer with 14 goals.
Mike Sithole (Chiefs), Maxwell Moyo (Orapa United) and Tebogo Mokute (BR Highlanders) are nominated for the coach of the season award. Meanwhile, Chiefs are expected to wrap up the league title this Saturday when they take on FC Satmos in Molepolole.
The Botswana Premier League (BPL) have since announced that even if they win this weekend, Chiefs would not be handed the trophy on the day.
They need just one point to seal the title and face a side that desperately needs a win to avoid relegation. In another exciting match, Extension Gunners take on GU on Sunday at the SSKB Stadium.
