The concerned members said they had expected the two former office bearers to give detailed reports about their terms.

“Our party has not done pretty well in the (last) general elections. Our youth league was supposed to give us feedback and some of the challenges they encountered during elections. Again, there are good things that they had also managed which youth wanted to hear,” said a concerned member.

He said what was very important for them to know was whether the youth league had managed to open its own account or not. “We cannot keep on relying on funds that we are given by our mother body. It is important that we should have our own budget as the youth league,” he argued.

In response, the former BCPYL president Dithapelo Keorapetse said the reason why the former secretary general did not give a report was because they had agreed with some party leaders that it would be a duplicate of what he had said. “I have mainly covered most of things that my secretary was going to say. We did not want to waste time. For our finances, our mother body has funded youth league and party treasury was the one who could give a report on our behalf. We had been funding some of our youth activities from our pocket,” Keorapetse said.

He said the youth league had no money, but they were forced to spend money from their pocket because it was election time.

“We had no time to raise funds and open our own youth league account. Elections were stretching us. Therefore, it was important that we help in the campaigns more so that this campaigns were not easy and some of the committee members were also candidates,” he said.

Keorapetse said since they could not do formal handing over this week as he was out of the country, it would be done next week.  In the meantime, Keorapetse said they have briefed the new committee on their failures and achievements.
