G4S launches fleet management system

The system will be used to track vehicles, provide useful data, open platform on application program interface (API) and provide reliable performance within the employees.
Launching the system, G4S operations director Molefe Matlhape said the new system has advanced mapping, which will be used to manage the company’s fleet as well as the capability to managing fuel.
“TomTom provides an advanced level of complexity that is visible in cars and the system is simplified interims of connection which makes it easier for us to monitor our cash and transit fleet,” he said.
The operations manager for fleet management and asset tracking, Isaac Keemetswe noted that the introduction of the TomTom Telematics system has addressed many challenges that they have been facing especially concerning the fleet.
“The system has managed to monitor our fleet thus improving efficiency within our organisation, reduce high cost of maintenance of our fleet, low fuel level consumption, low insurance premium, reduced operational costs as well as eliminate unauthorised vehicle utilisation and low accidents rate,” he said. Keemetswe also revealed that before the introduction of the system, their fleet was misused as they had unauthorised trips and experienced poor driving, which sometimes led to accidents and incurred them high cost of maintenance and high insurance premiums.
He added that with TomTom, they managed to capture and monitor the distance of their fleet, manage them and warn them even when they are due for service.
TomTom Telematics team leader, Nicole Thomson assured their clients that the system offers world-class technology as it has improved maps and offer real time traffic data, which depends on the installation base. “This system has professional navigation which can help someone to avoid traffic, has vehicle trafficking which promotes efficiency within a work institution,” he said.
Thomson assured the efficiency of the system saying that it has two data centres available to protect the data and ensure that it is available 24 hours a day. The system can also be monitored through smart phones and androids.
For his part, G4S managing director, Michael Kampani noted that there were many products in the market, adding that sustainability, reliability and credibility were critical. “That is the reason why we decided to partner with TomTom Telematics to be able to deliver efficiently to our clients,” he said. This system has been piloted for almost a year at Kgalagadi Breweries Limited, Morupule Coal Mine, Avis as well as Water Utilities Corporation (WUC).
