The Human Resource Training Fund is operated under the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC).

BQA acting chief executive officer, Abel Modungwa said the system is being developed to ensure that an institution will train employees and make the payment only after the study period has elapsed. He said this would ensure that those employees who drop out along the study period would not be covered by the fund.

Modungwa stated that the move came after a study was carried out revealing that employers are not coming forward to utilise the training fund as they complained about being charged twice.

“They complained that they were expected to pay to the fund and then to the training institution. The purchase order system, which is not yet employed, will make a huge difference,” he explained. In the meantime, management training company, Veldberry Management Training recently held a managerial institution certificate handling ceremony in Gaborone where more than 30 graduates were awarded certificates for having undertaken a Bullet Proof Manager training course.

VeldBerry has trained managers of some of the largest international companies as well as managers of thousands of businesses in Botswana.  The managing director of VeldBerry institution said graduates from the ceremony were eligible by volition to join and become members of the Institute of Leadership Management (ILM).

“ILM is the largest leadership programme and management organisation with interests in ensuring professionalism in leadership and management practices. VeldBerry plans to continue playing its part by adding yet another value adding Programme Bullet Proof Manager V, a new training Programme that will definitely give impetus to the leadership process and how leadership should be looked at,” he said.

One of the graduates, Thatayaone Didimalang said VeldBerry management and training has empowered them with skills and knowledge to cope with their daily challenges.

“This is also extended to appreciate the fact that the course has changed us by example teaching us how to change ourselves before we change our jobs,” he said.

Didimalang further said that BQA and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development had established a good training policy and the training levy, so that all sectors of Botswana economy could improve through higher employee performance.

Private employers in Botswana are required by law to pay levy into the HRDC fund. They then qualify to look for institutions that train their employees. The particular institutions will then be paid from the fund.

During the ceremony, managers from BQA Life, Gaborone Private Hospital (GPH), Orthosurge, Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA), Water Utilities Corporations (WUC), Rolling Wheels Botswana, Manase, Grand Palm Hotel and Senn Foods were awarded performance certificates.
