Ftown gloom persists as TASC relegates

TASC will now play in the regional league, leaving Francistown’s football future looking bleak as once high-flying ECCO City Greens look certain to exit the Premier League.

TASC status in the league was dependent on Tonota FC losing or drawing against Tsabothe during the weekend.

Going into the weekend matches, Tonota were bottom in the 12-team league with 20 points while TASC that have completed their fixtures, occupied position 10 with 22 points. This meant if Tonota won, TASC were doomed.

Tonota FC did themselves a favour by beating Tsabothe 1-0, therefore saving their own status in the First Division.

TASC spokesperson, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe said the reason for the team’s current woes is financial problem that was exacerbated by the withdrawal of sponsorship by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).

“There are some things that we did not do well as a committee. We did not implement some projects that were planned,” said Gaotlhobogwe.

He also stated that club leadership was divided hence the predicament they find themselves in.

Going forward, Rapula said they have to go back to the drawing board and correct their mistakes.

“We need men and women who are strong to resuscitate the fortunes of the club. We should stop this culture of finger-pointing when things are not going our way,” he appealed.

TASC’s relegations woes have already worsened the climate of gloom that has enveloped Francistown since the relegation of TAFIC last season.

With TAFIC having failed to bounce back to the Premier League and another Francistown side, Amakhosi also having relegated to the second division, Great North Tigers  (GNT) stay in the league is hanging by a thread.

GNT are third from bottom with 22 points.  Their stay in the league is dependent upon Green Lovers winning the promotional play-off against Mogoditshane Fighters. Otherwise, football lovers here are going to have one long night.
