Busy transfer season looms

Outstanding: Boy

Outstanding: Boy

This season’s outstanding performer, Township Rollers’ midfielder, Segolame Boy has reportedly impressed South African sides and could depart although he still has a year to run on his current contract.

Platinum Stars have been mentioned as a possible destination, where the left footed midfielder might replace another Botswana export, Mogakolodi Ngele. Ngele is expected to join Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season.

Notwane might find it difficult to keep prolific Zambian striker, Zebron Njobvu, who has found the net at will since joining in January. The tall striker has been enjoying a purple patch at Toronto, scoring six goals since his arrival. His six-month contract expires at the end of the season and a move to a more ambitious outfit cannot be ruled out.

Outstanding Gaborone United goalkeeper, Goitseone Phoko might excite South African clubs and join compatriot custodians, Modiri Marumo and Kabelo Dambe in the lucrative league. Dirang Moloi, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Phenyo Mongala also do not know where their futures lie. The trio signed five-year deals with Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) Don Bosco in 2013.

After enduring a frustrating first season with the club, they decided to terminate their contracts, which sparked a dispute. The matter was referred for arbitration. In the interim, the players signed short-term loan deals; with Moloi and Ramatlhakwana joining Rollers and Mongala joining Chiefs.

The deals expire at the end of the season. Rollers’ Maano Ditshupo and Oscar Ncenga’s contracts expire at the end of the season and negotiations have dragged on since January with questions raised about their future. Gifted left-footed winger, Galabgwe Moyana’s future might lie away from Chiefs as Rollers are reportedly interested in him.

Despite their good performances this season, coaches Rahman Gumbo of Gaborone United and Mike Sithole of Chiefs have not yet secured their future with their clubs. Gumbo’s GU have fallen short in the race for the league title, but won the Mascom Top 8 trophy.

The cup victory may prompt Moyagoleele to give him a contract extension. Sithole is on the verge of securing the league title and it would be interesting to see where his future lies.
