Fire 998 win Five-A-Side tourney

Shining Stars were the runners up while Gorgeous Girls and Copper Nickel finished  third and fourth respectively. A private company, Social Magnet Entertainment organised the charity tournament to raise funds for orphanage centres in both Botshabelo South and Botshabelo North.

Company chairperson, Kabelo Kepaletswe said proceeds from the tournament will be used towards buying clothing hampers for 248 orphans in Botshabelo South and Botshabelo North orphanage centres.

The tournament was also meant to raise fitness awareness among Phikwe women.

While urging Batswana to show compassion to the less privileged, he explained that as a company based in Selebi-Phikwe, they felt the need to give back to the residents hence the decision to donate to the orphans. A participant, Keolebogile Maswabi, who is a Guidance and Counseling teacher at Mojamorago CJSS in Botshabelo said her primary goal for taking part was to support the orphans.

“Where I work, we have orphans and I felt it was important to take part to help orphans as some are from families that cannot afford to take care of them,” Maswabi explained.

She, however, felt more people could have participated. Kepaletswe raised concern that the society is averse to helping the orphans.

Of the 18 teams that were expected to participate, 16 teams showed up and each one of them contributed a registration fee of P500.

The first prize and second prizewinners will be treated to a trip to Teraffou Limpopo, which includes accommodation, game drive and beach volleyball among others.  Third and fourth prizewinners will get dinner at Phokoje Bush Lodge. The event is expected to be an annual charity event.
