Segametsi unveiling reminder of uncompleted investigations

Mogomotsi died 06 November 1994, her body was found dumped and mutilated. Her mysterious death caused riots all over Mochudi before spreading to other parts of the country including Gaborone, resulting in violent demonstrations by schools, colleges, and the University of Botswana.
Although so many years have since passed, the Family of Mogomotsi are still clinging on hope for answers but say they have given up on government. On Saturday they said that over the years they have constantly asked for answers but to no avail. They said that even though they do not want to ruffle old feathers, they are disappointed in the way the government has failed to provide answers.
Tlhabane Mogomotsi, the deceased brother told The Monitor that the police and government officials have failed to explain to them what exactly happened to his sister. ‘The police have not briefed us about their progress in years; the last time we were briefed on anything was when representatives from Scotland came.
The only people who check on us is the media,’ he said. Her 40 year old brother related his last moments with his sister: ‘ The last time I saw her she was going around the village raising funds for a charity project her church was involved in.’
He also said that his younger sister would usually sleep over at her church mates’ houses, thus when she did not return home that night they did not worry until the second day. ‘ The next day, people came over to our house informing us that her body was found dumped on the other side of the village,’ he said adding that his sister’s body was found not so far from their home.
He said that he did not go see her body as he was still in shock. Attesting to the brother’s statements was council chairman, Mpho Morolo; ‘I went to the office of the president (Sir Ketumile Masire) sometime in 2012, asking that the family meet up with the president for closure. There still up to this day no response from them.”
