BDF Day pulls large crowd

Every year multitudes descend from all corners of the country for the celebrations, making it one of the biggest in the calendar of the military and the country at large.

This year, the BDF’s 38th anniversary celebrations at the National Stadium on Saturday were no different with many left watching outside on the big screen, as the stadium could not accommodate everyone.

For some reason, the different activities often associated with the day never seem to get boring or get out of fashion for a lot of people, who just cannot get enough of the variety of entertainment dished out by the military personnel.

Some displays always make a come back every year for the celebrations and they still remain a hit for both the young and the old.

For example the BDF clowns will forever remain the fans favourites and the main ingredient in spicing the gracious event.

Displays such as fly past, mock battle are very rare moments that show both the seriousness of the military and yet done in a fun way. Fly past displays different military aircrafts and their roles such as those used during war times and those used during a victory fall. Victory fall is often done as a celebration after battle.

The display of the aircrafts on air was such adrenalines’ rush to the many of people especially those that have not seen them at close range. Mock battle too, may be displayed in a light way yet at the same time showcasing the length the military would take to protect the country. Other activities of the day included the usual main parade synonymous with the military, where the President, Sir Seretse Khama Ian Khama have the chance to inspects the parade. The  dog display, band display, synchronised drill, and BDF presentation by the band were some of the routine demonstrations that the multitudes continue to enjoy.
