Mmadinare Senior Secondary School was originally tipped to host the BDP but reports say its premises will not be available for the congress.

Sources say the school management has informed the party that its multi-purpose hall would not be available because it would be in use.

The BDP congress will be on 3 July. It is said the BDP leadership has instructed BOMASE region to look for an alternative venue or convince the school authorities to allow the party to pitch a tent on the school grounds for the congress.

A source said BOMASE is a big region and therefore the congress can be held in one of the villages apart from Mmadinare. “It suggested that the BOMASE region should inquire if Selebi-Phikwe Town Council Hall is available or not,” the source said.

The source said the BOMASE region has been given three weeks to look for a suitable place, failing which, the congress would be relocated elsewhere.

The source said the party wants to start preparing for the congress but is handicapped by its failure to secure a venue.

BDP executive secretary, Sechele Sechele, said the problem with the venue arose after the date of the congress was changed from 10 July to 3 July. “The date was changed simply because Parliament would be sitting on July 10th,” he explained.

He said officials from BOMASE have indicated that they would look for another venue in the region.
