Enterprise risk management graduates shine

The postgraduate certificate programme, which attracted throngs from the business sector, aims to create awareness of the importance of risk enterprise management as a vital tool for strategic management and governance within organisations.
Organisational development expert, Bonang Kwape, who officiated at the event, advised graduates to develop good people management and engagement skills, as averting risk requires that employees be brought on board at every planning stage.
She said high business performance could not be detached from people and effective risk management.
“It is critical that you drive employee effectiveness through employee engagement. It is not enough to have performance measures that gauge employee satisfaction while engagement is left out,” Kwape said.
She added that an engaged workforce reduces absenteeism, a crisis that has been associated with great financial loss in the economy.
“In the increasingly technologically driven job market of today, challenges and risk merely evolve faster. It is exciting to see that BAC answers to these challenges with practical experience,” she said. For his part the BAC executive director, Michael Lesolle said the journey of knowledge is a self-generatory one that never stops. He said it is very critical for people to hunger for knowledge, especially now when graduates had to differentiate themselves from their counterparts. Lesolle also reiterated the importance of investing in human capital.
“It is always a moment for me when BAC answers Botswana’s human capital needs with fully relevant skills for the job market. It also gives me immense pleasure to note that today’s graduates are the 6th cohort leaving the College with enhanced knowledge and skill,” he said.
The programme was introduced in 2012 with the hope of bringing the skills gap in the local economy with regards to disciplines of enterprise and risk management and governance.
Neo Lepang from the Gaborone campus and Edwin Sechele from the Francistown campus were crowned best students, for their sterling performances that enabled them to beat fellow students.
