Alcohol contributes to less than 3% of easter traffic offences

According to the statistics released by Botswana Police Traffic Department after the Good Friday/Easter holidays, out of 6,637 total traffic offences recorded during this period, 190 or 2.8 % of the offences were attributed to drunken driving.

While the number of drunken driving continue to be less than those who are over speeding, driving without licenses and other offences, Botswana Alcohol Industry Association (BAIA) remains concerned about drivers who continue to drive while above the permissible limit of alcohol content in the body.

Botswana Alcohol Industry Association, is aware that the figure of less than 3 percent of traffic offences committed on Botswana roads has been consistent for almost a decade, however the Association condemns in the strongest terms those drivers who continue to disregard our efforts and those of other stakeholders to stop the bad practice of driving while above the permissible limit of alcohol in the body.

BAIA would like to congratulate the Botswana Police Traffic Department for its continued vigilance on our roads at all times.

Special thanks goes to our customers who obey Botswana traffic laws and refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Botswana Alcohol Industry Association would like to take this opportunity to re-state our commitment in working with all stakeholders to eliminate drunken driving through various effective public education platforms.

In conclusion we wish to appeal to all drivers to desist from driving while above the permissible of content of alcohol at all times.

This will contribute to making Botswana roads safer and a pleasure to drive on.
