Berry heart uses poetry to make a difference

The multi-talented actress, singer, poet and women and children’s rights activist touched the women’s fragile hearts with a poem, which addressed rape, child molestation, gender based violence (GBV).
Berry Heart told the audience that growing up at a settlement called Magagarape, she witnessed many abuse cases where women were being abused by their spouses and swore that when she grew up she would fight with everything in her being to stop gender based violence.
“At Magagarape, people spend most of their time drinking alcohol more especially men. I have seen many women battered by their drunken lovers and I told myself that I would not watch that happening. These abuse cases broke my heart and I vowed to take action. I vowed that I would raise awareness on issues that affect women and children and as long as I live I will makes sure that discrimination against them ends,” she said.
Berry Heart said she did not become an artist by default but chose that career because she realised that the only way she could spread her messages was by becoming a performer.
“I wanted to do something about GBV. I wanted to do something positive for women by being their voice. I could have chosen a different career like anybody else but I knew that I had a purpose in this life and am passionate about helping my fellow women,” she said.
Berry Heart also called on the women to unite so that they could rule the world together and make it a better place for everyone. She further highlighted that jealousy towards one another hinders women from succeeding.
She also called on women and the corporate world to assist other women and girl children improve their lives. She said this would curb poverty amongst women and their children.
She decided to become the life of the party and asked the DJ to play some music, and encouraged women to tell each other that they are beautiful and that they love each other.
