Zimbabwean artists rock Botswanacraft

Zimbabwean artist based in Botswana, Tawanda Benson known as Dr Tawanda, thrilled the crowd with his dance moves. The energetic musician performed his famous songs Cheso Power, Gumbo, Paurendo, Unconquerable, Ambuye and Baba.
Dr Tawanda and his energetic band managed to hook the audience’s attention with their splendid rhythm and dance. Amongst his dancers was Zune who mimicked a crippled man’s move. Zune who is also from Zimbabwe displayed various dance moves. The crowd cheered with excitement, while some tried to copy his dance moves. The young energetic dancer showcased his dance skill, and gave revellers something to talk about with ‘bicycle’. Talented guitarist Spiro played some of the famous Shona songs, and got the crowd to scream, in appreciation of his skill. Another guitarist used his foot to play the guitar, which spiced up the whole performance. Dr Tawanda featured two of his talented female artists D’Nice and TS. D’Nice performed her beautiful R & B song Sunshine, and TS wowed the crowd with Don’t Say Goodbye. They left audience begging for more.
“Ambuye song in Setswana sings ‘ modimo wame o ntlhokomele. Fa ke tsamaya bantlhoi ba mpone ke tshega tshega ba ipotse gore go diragala eng (meaning my God take care of me so that my enemies will see me happy and ask themselves what is going on with my life,” he narrated.
He also told the audience that the song Baba means, “Jesus where I am is very tough. Please protect me.” This was helpful to a few Batswana and those who do not understand Shona to understand the lyrics. The Ugandan-born Zimbabwean artist left night crawlers begging for more.
Things heated up when the most awaited Zimbabwean Dendera Music vocalist, guitarist, composer and stage performer, Suluman Chimbetu, got on stage. Even though at the time the rain started pouring heavily, Chimbetu’s devoted fans could not resist his rich music, and danced in the rain while others took cover under the stage roof.
Chimbetu’s dancers unleashed impressive performances. He treated his fans with songs from his fifth album Gunship. Tracks in the album released last year, include Nyuchi, Idah Nhoro, Tora Mari, Phone and Mr Bensen, which is a dedication to his late grandfather.
Other performances, which blew the audience away, were from Ngoma 2015 Marimba band, which treated the audience with some of the famous Zimbabwean hits. Local DJ Sly together with Robbie Rob and Big Fish also did their best to make the Zimbabwean Independence celebration a day remember.
