The Boovs are here

Home is the name of the entertaining cartoons we watched and became friends with at the big screen.  This film is a 2015 American 3D computer-animated comedy film from DreamWorks Animations, the very same production, which produced smashing animations as Madagascar, Shark Tale, Shrek Megamind and more. It is an adaptation of a book based on Adam Rex’s 2007, The True Meaning of Smekday.

It stars a whole lot of celebrities; Rihanna plays the leading role as the voice of Gratuity ‘Tip’ Tucci, a little girl who is lost. Alongside her is Oh sounded by Jim Parsons who apparently is a banished misfit Boov.

Steve Martin is also a Boov. The movie was compiled by animation specialist director, Tim Johnson, whose record speaks for itself as he won Best Directing in Animated Feature Production for Over The Hedge (2006). The same director also gave us Antz (1998).

What takes centrestage in Home is that, when Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human.

While he changes her planet and she changes his world as their worlds collide, they discover the true meaning of the word home.

What prompted yours truly to take the little ones to the screening of Home is the electrifying trailer, which promises an exciting adventure.

Once you watch this animation the characters serenade you. The film features these little purple creatures, introduced as earth’s other species, Boovs.  Another great thing about animation films is that, they have meaningful clear messages that children can relate to. Home, shows children the importance of love, friendship, family and believing in oneself. A good example is when Tip and Oh comfort each other on their long journey. Tip ends up suggesting that when you have friends, everyday is the best day.

Home is quite hilarious too.  Oh and the other Boovs (Captain Smek) do outrageous stuff that bring laughter and smiles.

Most notable scenarios are when Oh brushes his teeth with a toilet scrubber, and drinks water from the toilet bowl. It does not stop there.  Home is also fun because it has enjoyable soundtracks playing in the background.

The best of them all is Jennifer Lopez’s Feel The Light Home.

Oh tries to resist at first, saying all he hears is just noise, and his feet betray him and start moving involuntarily dancing to the tune. The feel good music enhances the cinematography. The film packs a great deal of entertainment not just for children but also for adults, as well as has funny instances that only adults can relate to.  For instance there is a slush drink that goes by the name Busta Lime and funny enough that brings to mind the name of rapper Busta Rhymes.

Home’s box office reception and the attention it is getting in cinemas clearly shows positive results. Home premiered at the number one spot at the box office with an opening weekend gross of $52 million, before eventually bowing down to Fast and Furious 7.  Home currently holds the second spot on the charts and has now made $129 million in the US alone. The worldwide box office figures are $250 million, which look impressive considering that its budget was only $135 million. Its movie soundtrack Feel The Light by Jennifer Lopez was met with moderate success on the music charts.
