Relegated Gantsi Terrors will play their last game in the lower division this Saturday

The match is only of academic interest as the two sides have relegated to the Second Division. Jwaneng Galaxy have qualified for the Premier League by finishing with 45 points. On the other hand, Mogoditshane Fighters have booked themselves a spot in the promotion play-offs.

First Division South League official, Thebeetsile Mokgwa told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the match between Peril and Terrors was not played last weekend.

Peril have 18 points while Terrors have one point from the 21 games they have played. He said the game was postponed after the death of a Peril goalkeeper.

He explained that the results of the game would not change anything for the two sides because they have already relegated to a lower division.

Mokgwa said the season has gone on despite Terrors failing to honour some fixtures due to financial constraints. He pointed out that the grants allocated to clubs was not enough to assist them for the duration of the season.

“Terrors had to make 11 trips at a cost of around P10, 000 each. That was expensive for them. It is unfortunate for the First Division Committee that we are unable to negotiate sponsorship for the league.

“We can only make suggestions to the Botswana Football Association (BFA),” said Mokgwa.

He pointed out that the constitution gives BFA the right to negotiate sponsorships for the First Division League.

He mentioned that the committee was able to put out a proposal to the motherbody to review grants allocation arrangement. This was on realising that with staggered payments, the funds were far too low. Last season, the clubs received P12, 500 after every four months.

Mokgwa said the First Division Committee must be autonomous and be able to negotiate sponsorship.

He added that the grants enabled clubs to compete on an equal footing.

Meanwhile, Mokgwa said the league has shown growth in terms of the quality of the players it attracted. He observed that former Premier League clubs such as Mogoditshane Fighters, Uniao Flamengo Santos, Killer Giants, Prisons XI, Galaxy and Black Peril characterise the league.

He also pointed out that the league has attracted former premier league players.
