Jwaneng mayor pledges support to JCI

Speaking when JCI international vice president, Itai Manyere paid a courtesy call on him, the mayor said his major concern is youth empowerment.

He said youth issues are his main priority and passion hence he will support the organisation. He admitted that some of the main youth challenges in Jwaneng are unemployment and HIV/AIDS. He called on the JCI to partner with relevant stakeholders to make an impact in the mining town. JCI is a transnational organisation led by the youth who have the spirit of volunteerism and want to live a mark in the community that they live in.

During the courtesy call, Manyere called on Oodira-Kwenje to provide support for JCI chapter in Jwaneng. He said JCI is led by the spirit of volunteerism and the zeal to see change and impact in circumstances in their surrounding. He said that his visit was aimed at inspiring JCI members, visit their projects and link them to potential sponsors.

He said the Dare eye care project in the area caught his attention because it brought sustainable solutions to the beneficiaries. After realising that poor sight affects students’s grades, JCI organised an eye-testing day for Maiteko Junior Secondary School students in Mabutsane.

Students with poor eye-sight were given glasses after testing. Manyere said JCI Jwaneng chapter has a number of events  such as first aid awareness and stakeholders’s forum, which needs support from the council.
