Over 300 delegates to attend SMME Pitso

The one-day event will be hosted by the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and brings together all stakeholders in the SMME development sphere to deliberate on pertinent issues that concern the the sector in Botswana.

The event, which will be held next week Thursday at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) will run under the theme, “Unlocking SMME’s Potential: A Key to Competitiveness and Economic Diversification”.

According to LEA spokesman, Wanetsha Mosinyi the theme aims to encourage deliberations on the prevailing challenges, suggested solutions, success stories and possible strategies to unlock SMME’s potential so that they grow into competitive and sustainable entities.

The Minister of Trade and Industry Vincent Seretse will officiate at the event while local transport magnate, Abel Monnakgotla will be guest speaker.

Monnakgotla, who is the winner of the presidential award medal, is also the founder and Managing Director of five companies, namely AT & T Monnakgotla Transport, AT & T Monnakgotla Travel & Tours, AT & T Travel Agency, Afrisure Insurance Brokers and Telnet Solutions.

According to Mosinyi, Monnakgotla will share his entrepreneurial experience with participants on how he built successful enterprises and further diversified to other sectors.

Participants at the Pitso will also have the opportunity to further attend seminar sessions that will take place in the afternoon.

These platforms will be hosted by various capacity building institutions and stakeholders that have the ability to impact the growth of SMMEs in Botswana and will be speaking on the various strategies to adopt in order to enhance SMMEs/businesses, in line with the theme.

Organisations expected to participate at this seminar include: Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS), Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB), Competition Authority, Selebi-Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU), BancABC, Botswana Exporters and Manufacturers Association (BEMA) and Economic Diversification Drive (EDD).
