Speaking to Mmegi Sport PTIA president, Keorapetse Setlhare stated that the improving and developing sports in tertiary schools is not an easy walk in the park, but the association is trying by all means to make a difference that will bring change.

“We are looking forward to introducing a number of sporting codes and sporting workshops that will help tertiary students in the foreseeable future after their studies,” he said.

He stated that PTIA would this year introduce rugby as a sporting code in private tertiary schools, which will also pave way for a private institution rugby league.

PTIA has already agreed terms with Botswana Rugby Union (BRU)

“One thing that is pulling us back is lack of sporting facilities. A number of private institutions do not have sporting facilities.

“They have to hire facilities for training and games which is costly,” said the PTIA president. PTIA has also partnered with the Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) in an agreement whereby private institutions will host tournaments that will also be open to public institutions and the general public.

“We are trying to give students an exposure so that they can get an opportunity to be selected in the national team,” stated Setlhare.

He further stated that the association and different stakeholders such as Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) would today conduct a workshop at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology that will sensitise students on sport management and administration.

“We do not only want students to participate in sports, but they should also have the expertise in administering and managing them,” he said.

PTIA has eight private institutions namely: Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Botho University, Ba Isago University College, New Era College, ABM University College, GIPS, Boitakanelo College and Imperial School of Business and Science formerly known as Damelin College.
