Duo charged for suffocating guard

Tshimologo Cheche, and Eric Boyce were also charged with office break-in and theft.

The two are alleged to have tied the hands of a security officer, Segomotso Kenalemang, and suffocated her with an intent to commit a crime on April 2.

They are accused of breaking-in and stealing from the offices of Central Transport Organisation (CTO) in Nata.

They allegedly stole cell phones, drilling machines, a laptop and a Kia motor vehicle valued at P50,000 from the CTO. The police say that the accused used the car to escape and transport the stolen goods.  Inspector Thulaganyo Pitso applied for the accused to be remanded in custody for 14 days because investigations have just started. “The accused were arrested at Gaborone on Sunday and were transported to Francistown. The investigations team is yet to visit the scene of crime and have not recorded statements from potential witnesses. The team is also yet to visit Gumare and Pandamatenga villages where some of the suspected stolen property was recovered. We fear that they may interfere with investigations if granted bail,” said Pitso.

Cheche told the court that the police tortured him after he was arrested. “I urgently want to be taken to the hospital for medical attention. The police have refused to take me to the hospital. I am on low blood medication and have not taken my medication since I was arrested,” he said.

Boyce told the court that his back pain medication had finished but the police are refusing to take him to hospital for replenishments.

Chief magistrate, Gaedupe Makgatho ruled that the accused should be taken to hospital for medical attention. He remanded them in custody until April 27.
