Baatshwana says X depicts the world of secrets

X, which is one of Sky Blue Dance Hub’s latest productions, is a dance/ theatre production, which depicts the world of secrets.

“Through dance, we will show how secrets have been handled, how they have come out in the open and affected people and the society as a whole” said Baatshwana, who is the artistic director and choreographer of the production.

She stated that when watching the play, the audience should have an open mind that will allow them to ask themselves why they keep secrets, and how secrets have defined them.

“As we tell a story of secrets through dance, we want the audience to view what dance is capable of doing,” she said.

Baatshwana revealed that this year her production would be different from last year because she has added other dance genres in the play.

“X has a number of dance acts such as Latin, African contemporary and hip-hop.

“We decided to explore and think outside the box by adding a variety of dance genres on X,” she said.

The production has a number of seasoned and new dancers such as Faith Rapoo, Baratwa Phuthego, Game Tshireletso and co- choreographer Lesego Maseng.

The production has 11 performers from different backgrounds.

This year Baatshwana will be on stage as one of the performers on X.

“Due to the presence of a co- choreographer I will be on stage as well with the team telling a story of secrets,” she said.

Music created by Sky Blue Dancers will also be showcased during the dance/ theater production, as they will be dancing to the music.

The X creative director and chorographer told Showbiz that there will be simple stage set up to allow dance movements, but it will consist of creative lighting, comprising of different techniques such as shadows and silhouettes.

Sky Blue is working alongside designer Opelo ‘Seamstress’ Letshwiti who is designing stage costumes for the dancers.

The designer has an experience on stage costumes as she dressed the Tseleng cast during the 2014 Maitisong festival.

X will premier on April 25 at Maitisong hall. Tickets for the production show are already available at Maitisong and Webtickets.
