Kgosi Thobega laid to rest

The 86-year-old chief, who died on March 30 in South Africa where he had gone to seek medical attention was laid to rest at his village of Mmankgodi on Saturday. The Bahurutshe royal was eulogised as a humble leader who always put the interest of other people before his. Mourners said the chief should be celebrated because he had lived his life to the full.

Former Speaker of Parliament, Margaret Nasha said he worked well with Thobega when she served as Minister of Local Government. “We were best friends. Well I regarded him as a mentor and father. We should celebrate Thobega’s life as he lived his life to the fullest. The Bible also states that we have to live up to 70 years. Our father has exceeded that time frame and lived bonus years,” said Nasha told mourners. “E ne e re ke na le e ne ke bo ke mmitsa Tshwene mme a fetole a re ‘rotwe.’ Go tsweng foo re bo re nna fa fatshe re enwa tee e bile ke anya matsipa a botlhale mo go ene,” she recalled as the crowd roared in laughter.

She added that the deceased was a straight forward person who never hid his thoughts to anyone and expressed his opinions freely. She said Thobega was loyal and trustworthy. “This man was a Christian and I am confident that he is resting in the bosom of the Lord. He always preached the gospel of God to people whenever he got the chance. I urge whoever will succeed him to follow suit,” Nasha added. 

Dorcus Molefe, who represented the deceased’s children said that her father raised them up in a Christian way. She said Thobega was a smart man who loved suits even when he was bed-ridden. “I remember when he was still admitted at Bokamoso Hospital after Kgosi Mothibe visited him, he could not stop talking about his suit. He asked us to buy him the same suit and we were to ask Kgosi Mothibe to show us the suit he was wearing when he checked on our father so that we could look for a designer to sew him the suit,” she said with teary eyes.
