Facebook junkie completes two week jail

There was a scare that Kenosi’s jail term could be extended when the prosecution mentioned that they were still investigating the youngster as he appeared for mention for cyber crime charges relating to the distribution of the infamous Modipane porn romp video. However, the Village Principal Magistrate Godwill Makofi on Friday granted the controversial Facebooker conditional bail that includes restrictions on his travels.
While ordinarily Kenosi’s fans would have expected an easy walk from jail after completing the two weeks remand, things looked to be taking another turn for the worse on Friday when the prosecution informed the court that they had not completed their investigations; immediately sending fears that the prosecution could apply for a further remand of the lad whose Facebook celebrity status has seen him gathering over 75 000 followers, all thanks to his pull-no-punches, know-no boundaries exposes of secrets of private lives.
That new fear would abate in minutes though after Kenosi’s lawyer’s request for bail was not opposed by the prosecution in exchange of certain stringent conditions that see Kenosi unable to travel outside the country after he was ordered to surrender his passports and provide a surety.
He is also required to pay P500 and report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters every Wednesday between 7:30 am and 4:30pm.
Standing for the prosecution, Chief Prosecutor Lentlhametse Willy told the court that the prosecution does not object the granting of bail, he also said the purpose for the mention was to update the court on the investigations and at the time investigations are still on going.
He is charged with electronic trafficking in pornographic or obscene material contrary to the Cyber Crime and Computer Related Act of 2007. The Village Magistrates Court previously denied him bail on the April 2nd.
The 24-year-old Kenosi is also facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving and failure to stop and report an accident contrary to the Road Traffic Act of an offence he committed last September. He is also facing criminal defamation charge contrary to section 192 of the Penal Code in Francistown.
Kenosi will appear on May 15 when to decide on his trial dates.
Kenosi will also have to thank the two weeks jail for having catapulted his Facebook status, which grew from 73 000 on the week of his remand to over 75 000, an increase of over 2000 fans.
By Saturday midday though, almost over 12 hours since his release, Kenosi had not posted anything on his popular Facebook page, which still reflected that the last post was made on March 24.
