Nortex honours long serving workers

More than 100 employees out of 478 were awarded long service awards in recognition of serving the company for 10 years or more. “As much as we are a profit-making entity, we believe very much in a motivated team that shall drive business forward.
“These awards are an appreciation of the hard work, commitment and loyalty that these employees have given to the company,” Nortex Human Resources Manager, Thatayaone Majingo said. She added that employees come first at Nortex, saying a number of incentives have been introduced including a funeral policy for workers and their immediate family members. In addition, Nortex pays school fees for the dependents of loyal employees.
Speaking on the company’s performance, Majingo said Nortex has recovered from a major drop in sales encountered last year.
“Last year when the rand dropped, it affected our sales as South Africa is our main client. We had to retrench 26 employees. This year the situation is stable,” she said.
“However, high fuel costs are negatively impacting on our profit margins.”
Nortex has purchased new machines geared towards boosting production and improving efficiency. The company is one of the country’s few surviving entities in the notoriously unstable textile sector. Nortex was established in 1990 through a P2 million Botswana Development Corporation loan, on which an additional P1.6 million was later added for expansion. The company is now worth over P80 million.
