Police officer refutes car-torching charge

Atlholang Mojanki agreed that Segolame Tshekiso was once his lover, but he was not the one who torched the car of her partner, Letsweletse Matome at Mmei Junior Secondary School in April 2012. He told a magistrate yesterday that contrary to what the prosecution says, he was asleep when the incident happened. He said that in April, 2012 while at work at Francistown police station, he was summoned to the station commander’s office where he was interrogated. Earlier, he had seen Thekiso at the station.

Mojanki stated that the police took him to his place where they did a search for about 10 minutes, but left without taking anything. They then took him to Tshekio’s place where they did another search. Four days later, he said Tshekiso served him with a P40,000 notice to pay her for the cost of the burnt car.

In January 2014, Mojanki said he was summoned to court to answer to the current charge. Principal magistrate, Dumisani Basupi will deliver judgement in the matter on May 8.
