Etsha 13 man hacks grandfather to death

Superintendent John Kelebeng of Maun police said the incident happened at Dukwi ward after the two had a misunderstanding.

He said the enraged young man allegedly took a mutendere axe, which is a home weapon indigenous to the Hambukushu tribe and sank the sharp blade into his grandfather’s head. The old man reportedly died instantly. Kelebeng said the suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody.

Still in Gumare, on Easter Monday, there was another death incident in which a mounted herdsman is suspected to have died after accidentally falling from his running horse and hit his head against a tree. Kelebeng told Mmegi that the deceased and five other men were rounding cattle on horses when the incident happened.

He said the man was in the company of five other mounted herdsmen. According to Kelebeng, the group separated along the way and the victim met his fate while he was alone. The other herdsman became worried upon realising that he was no longer with the group, and subsequently went looking for him.  They found lying motionless, with injuries on the head. Kelebeng said no foul play is suspected in this incident.

In another in incident in Gumare, on Good Friday two armed robbers stole a Water Utilities Corporation 4.2 Land Cruiser after tying up the two security guards who were on night duty. The men, who were allegedly wearing balaclavas, were reportedly armed with an axe and a claw hammer.

They overpowered the Doled Security company, and tied their hands and feet together before demanding the office keys.

Meanwhile, in Gweta, an 87-year-old man died after escaping from Gweta Primary Hospital where he was admitted for an unspecified illness. 

He was discovered lying motionless by the roadside at Thuna ward and was confirmed dead at the hospital the following day. Investigations in to the cause of death are still underway.
