Now, when they take on Nico United in Selebi Phikwe next weekend, uppermost in the mind of BR Highlanders coach, Tebogo Mokute and his charges will be to keep head above the water.

Highlanders have collected nine points out of a possible 12 in the past four games, including the shock win against  previously high-riding Sankoyo.

Currently, the Mahalapye side occupies position 11 with 29 points.

“Our mandate as a team is to avoid relegation not to get into Top 8, so I am not going to put my boys under any pressure about finishing in the Top 8. Of course it will be a bonus achieving a top eight finish, but that is not our aim as for now,” he said.

He said they have not done anything special to turn around the results.

“It was just my players’ hard work and fighting spirit. One can clearly see that the boys do not want to relegate just by the way they play,” he said.

He said their starting line up always has more than five young players who are ready to prove their mettle in the elite league. He said they are out to make their names and it works to the team’s advantage.

Mokute also revealed that last month the management organised a counselling session for the players, which impacted positively on their mental strength.

“We signed Emmanuel Thakadu from Orapa United in January and he has really done well for the team. Of course everybody is working hard in the team to avoid relegation, but this man has got power.

“He scores in almost every game and it is really clear that we lacked his input in the first round. Even in our last encounter with Letlapeng, he is the one who gave us a winning goal,” he said.

He said their encounter with Nico United would be difficult, but vowed to go there and fight.  However in Majombolo, Highlanders meet a team that stunned defending champions, Township Rollers 2-0 on April 1.

Nico occupies position 13 on 26 points from 25 games with six wins, eight draws and 11 defeats.
