Botswana went into the match as the underdogs after suffering four T20 losses to Ghana and three defeats to Kenya, Namibia and Uganda during an ACA Division one tournament. Ghana closed the first innings with 143 runs, which Botswana found easy to surpass leaving the score line on 147 runs. The solid batting of Karabo Motlhanka and Izimam Master propelled Botswana to win the match, as the two batsmen scored 80 and 25 runs respectively.

The win means that Botswana will take part in the Pepsi ICC WCL Division six tournament that will be hosted by England in September this year. Other participating teams are Saudi Arabia, Fiji, Vanuata, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Suriname.

All the matches will be played at Essex County Cricket Club.

The national team captain, Karabo Modise was over the moon.“I was impressed by the unity that the boys displayed despite the losses in previous matches that we played in South Africa,” he said.

The skipper stated that the team will keep the solid form and improve it since they will be touring Europe in the second half of the year. “The team has greatly improved. Our game play has grown comparing to previous matches that we have played.”

Meanwhile, Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) chief executive officer (CEO), Girish Ramakrishina has confirmed that Joseph Angara who was the acting coach for the national team has returned back to his native country Kenya.

“He was only here to help the team prepare for the South African tour. We are in the process of looking for a coach. At the moment we still receiving CVs from applicants,” he revealed. Angara failed to travel with the national team due to VISA related issues.
