Man stabbed to death at Monarch bar

The commander of Francistown Central Police Station, Superintendent Lekang Maniki, said they have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder. He said that a sharp object appears to have been used to kill the deceased.

“Investigations are still ongoing but presently, we are holding a man who appeared in court yesterday and faces a murder charge,” he said. Maniki said that this is the first murder case in his beat this year. He said his officers usually deal with cases of common assault at drinking spots.

He explained that bars, clubs or any licenced alcohol drinking place is purely meant for entertainment purposes and not fights or arguments. He advised people to avoid needless blood shedding, saying they should refrain from carrying sharp objects like knives whenever they go out because they end up using them during arguments.

“People witnessing the fights should not just sit and watch. They should rather try by all means to stop the fights either by calling the police before someone is killed or injured,” Maniki explained. He told people to control their tempers whenever they are provoked. He advised patrons to avoid drinking too much alcohol. “People who are drunk can be victims of rape, robberies and car accidents,” he said adding that they will reveal the name of the deceased after his relatives have been informed.
