Thieves went away with eight bags belonging to the players, although the police in Serowe have revealed that two of the bags have been recovered.

“The bags recovered contained clothing only; other items such as cell phones were missing.

“They were dumped in a place near the stadium. We have not made any arrest in connection with the incident,” acting Serowe station commander, Patrick Molefhe said yesterday.

He said they suspect the culprits entered the bus through a window and stole the bags. Most of the bags had valuables such as cell phones, clothing and other electric gadgets.

“ We are yet to ascertain the value of the stolen goods,” Molefhe said.

He pleaded with teams and those who attend matches to ensure their belongings are secure during matches.ECCO spokesperson, Dingalo ‘Dickson’ Ditsheko said there was miscommunication as to who should guard the bus during the match. “Usually, we have people exchanging roles of guarding the bus during the course of the match. “But, there was miscommunication which left the bus vulnerable to attack by thieves,” he said. He said the team did not use the dressing room on the day of the match as they did not have water.  “ Usually when we use the dressing room it is because we need water, but since it had no water we opted to use our bus because we believed it was convenient,” he explained. He, however, said following the Serowe incident the team would ensure maximum security at its matches. Defender, Olekane Mambo and veteran goalkeeper, Chamunorwa Madamobe were some of the players who lost their bags during the Tuesday incident. Just recently a bus belonging to First Division South champions, Jwaneng Galaxy FC was broken into during one of their league encounters and thieves stole players’ valuables.
