She said the Balekane ba Botswana Pitse ya Naga couple has improved her life beyond human comprehension since they met.

The Zebra couple, Lyndon Mothusi and Boikhutso Shawe, were crowned Mr and Miss Independence Gaborone Region last October and went knocking on her door in November.

She said Mothusi and Shawe, who swore to benefit most of the vulnerable in the society, unburdened all the weight that was on her shoulders.

Sebele met Lele in 2009 and the two married last April.  She met him already a disadvantaged man having suffered a stroke prior to that year.  Sebele said she single-handedly cared for her husband and it was a huge responsibility.

“I had already given up hope then and I believed that no one could ever come to my rescue,” she said.

Sebele said as she continued to stick with Lele through the medical check ups and other life struggles, everything changed when Mothusi and Shawe came on board.

“Our lives improved greatly.  They helped me take my husband for check ups,” she said.  Sebele said all the despair in her spirit soon disappeared because the Zebra couple provided them with food, money and took them to society outings like weddings and parties.

She said she also noticed her husband’s spirits brighten up.  “Attending football matches together as a whole gave him great delight,” she said.  Sebele also highlighted the fact that Mothusi and Shawe were still supporting her even after her husband’s death. She appreciated the couple and everyone who helped during Lele’s funeral.

Expressing his delight, Mothusi said sports bodies like Botswana National Sport Council and Botswana Football Association are now aware of other forgotten sport legends simply because of their selfless efforts.

“We must raise awareness so that these legends can be taken care of,” he said.

He said he leant a lot from the late Lele and it was a pity that he never got the chance to share his knowledge with the world. Mothusi said it is every Motswana’s responsibility to drive Botswana’s pillars forward and become a compassionate, just and caring nation.

Shawe said it makes her happy whenever they help those who cannot help themselves.

“There is no financial return, we are sacrificing our money and time just to fulfill this greater good,” she said.

She commended both her family and Mothusi’s for understanding and being supportive at all times.  Shawe said both their spouses have been appreciative as they map a way forward to transform lives.  The Zebra Couple said they would continue to help many others beyond their reign, when the pageant is held in September.
