Storming in: Galaxy will make it premier league debut next season

Galaxy sealed their promotion to the elite league last Saturday after an emphatic 2-0 pasting of Black Peril. Club spokesperson, Kealeboga Ramogobya said it is always difficult for newly promoted sides to cope in the Premier League because of a huge gap in terms of prize money.

He said until the sponsorship issue is addressed in the First Division, where teams will be able to get improved prize money, they will continue to struggle.

The winner in the first Division currently gets P10, 000 while Premier League winners pocket P1 million. “With that P10, 000 prize money, you are expected to recruit experienced players in order to make your presence felt in the Premier League. It is not easy,” he argued.  He, however, stated that his side would be ready to compete because of the number of experienced players they have.

At the start of the season, Galaxy managed to bring in seasoned players who have plied their trade in the competitive Premier League for many years.

The players include Boitumelo Mafoko, Musa Ohilwe, Thebe Maiketso and Tebogo Sosome.

In January, they went into the transfer market again and brought in former Township Rollers and BMC striker, Kenanao Kgetholetsile.

“In terms of experience we are fine. Our coach (Oris Radipotsane) has Premier League experience as well,” he said.

Galaxy are left with one game before they wrap up their season.

“After our last game against Prisons XI, we will break and by the middle of May, we expect the coach to give us a list of players he wants to carry along to the Premier League,” he added.

Ramogobya also said they would expect the coach to provide a list of players he would like to reinforce his squad with next season.

They will start their pre-season in June.

“We will start our pre-season by travelling to South Africa. Then we will come back and tour areas such as Ghanzi and Tsabong because our other objective is to attract new supporters around those areas,” he said.  He revealed that they would have a retreat at the end of April where they will invite renowned football administrator, Ashford Mamelodi to help them strategise for the Premier League campaign.

He said they would use Jwaneng Galaxy Stadium as their home ground next season.

“We will try and talk to the authorities at the mine to see if they cannot put some stand on the side of the dressing rooms,” he said.
