“We are very pleased and humbled that the highly regarded Advocate Wim Trengove SC will lead us in the LSB and Motumise vs President Ian Khama and Judicial Service Commission application. He has decided to assist pro bono because he considers it a very important matter,” LSB attorney Tshiamo Rantao said. Despite the looming legal battle, Khama rubberstamped the appointment of Zein Kebonang as acting judge of the High Court last week.

The LSB lawyers recently served a statutory notice on the Attorney General after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) recommended Kebonang as acting judge.

Trengove is regarded as possibly the leading legal practitioner in South Africa today. He obtained his LLB (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria in 1974, where he also obtained university colours for academic excellence, leadership, and sports (water polo).

He has held leading positions in the profession like chairing the General Council of the Bar of South Africa. He was a member of the Judicial Service Commission and has served as a judge on several occasions. It is, however, as a trial advocate that he has become well known.
