Dr Patrick Benon, Orange CEO said; “As the first mobile operator to launch 4G technology in the country, we have seen a considerable amount of appetite for the technology, as evident from the number of customers purchasing 4G certified devices and swapping their sim cards to 4G.

Our customers continue to enjoy 4G technology at no additional cost.  The existing data charges apply to 4G users”.

Orange said 4G certified  sim cards and devices, including the most affordable 4G cellphone, the Orange Roya are available at Orange shops in Palapye, Francistown and Maun.

Orange introduced the  affordable smart  phone, the Roya, to take advantage of Orange’s 4G network.

Orange customers are increasingly using more data with the arrival of 4G. There is a noticeable increase in the downloading and use of mobile applications, video streaming and other rich multimedia applications on the go.

Itumeleng Garebatshabe, an Application Developer based in Gaborone said: “I am seeing a surge improvement in our app downloads from Orange users, hence why I have keen interest especially with the Roya. I have tested the Orange Roya myself, and it is quite a good phone for 4G access, especially for the typical man on the streets.”

Francistown, Palapye and Maun will continue to have active 3G, 2G and Edge network. These will continue to operate and complement 4G where it is not available. Orange Botswana will also continue to invest on these networks for the best customer experience on data.

Orange Botswana recently underwent a network transformation and optimisation exercise to prepare for the roll out of 4G technology and other upcoming sophisticated services.

This exercise came with the development and strengthening of the internal team, which received specialised training in Poland to prepare them for this role.

Additionally, the company engaged a technical partner, Ericson Botswana, to enable seamless roll out and management of 4G network. Ericson’s obligation is to support Orange technical team to improve the Network Key Performance Indicators to reach defined international standards.
