The music video which was shot in a studio at Commerce Park on Thursday, features South African music giants, African Roots, Metro FM DJ Adil and Scandal actor Kagiso Modupe who plays Mangi in the soapie.

Team Distant manager, Pukka Entaile said they met African Roots during last year’s annual BACK 2 SKUL bash and they decided to make a collaboration.

“We started shooting today and very soon sax on the floor will be playing in our local television stations,” he said.

Kenneth Manyemuka better known as Nyekx from African Roots said they did not know each before their first meeting but after the bash they decided to work together.

“We identified a huge potential in Team Distant and we already knew what they were capable of,” he said.

Nyekx said initially they wanted to do an instrumental only, but later decided to add vocals to the song. He said when they returned back to South Africa they engaged Adil and Modupe who they had been working with. “They were very impressed with the song and decided to join in and become part of the massive collaboration,” Nyekx said.

Although this is his debut platform in the music industry, Modupe who is better known as Mangi by his adoring fans, indicated that he would not quit acting but rather wanted to explore his other artistic talents. Kagiso, whose Twitter handle is @KagisoModupe on social media further said he appreciates Botswana’s pure talent. “Batswana should not look down upon themselves because they are equally talented as SA artists,” he said.

Meanwhile, African Roots, Kagiso and Adil gave motivational talks to a youth group from Bona Naledi in Old Naledi. The group, which specialises in life skills for behaviour change and life transformation was encouraged in their endeavours and reminded that the sky is the limit. Kagiso advised them to keep away from drugs and focus on engagements that would transform their lives for the better. “I have been an actor for 12 years and have learnt many things during this time. This has taught me to inspire young people and remind them that they to can achieve anything they set their mind to,” he said.

The song Sax on the Floor will be featured in Adil’s forthcoming compilation and will also be the first single in Team Distant’s upcoming album.
