Speaking at ACEB’s general meeting held in Gaborone yesterday,  Molefhi said the construction industry has been faced with all types of challenges relating to poor execution, late delivery of projects, cost overruns, and corruption with regards to public infrastructure.

“I am aware that there are a number of issues troubling you, which mainly have to do with low job opportunities.

“We are currently constrained because of the economic situation,” he said.

Molefhi further said the government has taken deliberate action to address challenges, which are troubling the construction industry.

He said the ministry has established three registration boards to register all experts of the industry.

“We have also gone a step further and developed policy, legal and regulatory instruments to guide and regulate the professional conduct of all experts to ensure compliance,” he said.

For his part, the president for Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM), Leta Mosienyane said his organisation envisage within the same arrangement to have professional bodies like ACEB being represented in their own right as members and thus be able to regularly put through issues for advocacy. “These will be issues specific to your organisation and your member, articulated by experts in the field. This way, we believe we will serve you much better than we are doing already,” Mosienyane said.
